The "It" Vacation Spots

When the calendars turn to May, you know that summer vacation is just around the corner. Parents have started to talk about places to go and what to do. Teachers start to slack off on the homework and college graduates come back home. Some places in the U.S. that are great for families to travel to see the sun are Ocean City, Maryland and Virginia Beach, Virginia. These places are best for families that want to spend their vacation very close to the beach.

In Ocean City, there are many things to do, including the Ocean City beach lights, free movies, family beach Olympics, beach fireworks, and free concerts on the beach. If you are thinking about going to the beach, remember to bring sunscreen and try to see who can find a dolphin. To see more, take a dolphin cruise or go and see some horses at Assateague a few miles away. Maybe even take a walk along the three mile long board walk. When your stomachs start to growl, you can go to some seafood shacks or dress up and go to a more elegant restaurant. In Ocean City, you are able to do many things to enjoy with your family and create many memories.

While still staying on the East Coast, you can travel to Virginia and go to Virginia Beach. One thing to do if you come early is to see the Virginia Arts Festival. Through April 9-May 26, there will be many performances given. World-class performers will come to Virginia Beach to bring inspiration to young students and a cultural difference to the community and visitors. If you want to spend more time on the beach instead of at the performances, then you can go and look for dolphins. On the boat the Rudee Flipper, you can look for dolphins on their dolphin watching cruise. Other ways to stay on the water is to go on a dolphin watching sunset cruise with the Rudee Tours. All of these activities will surely make your vacation fun for the whole family.

These places are all great for families of all ages and allow for the whole family to enjoy the vacation. If you have any places that would be great for the whole family tell me more about it. Why would you chose that place and what would you do there?

Spring Break Destinations

For many people Spring Break has come and gone, but there are still plenty of fun things to do. I didn't really do anything over my Spring Break but I know that if I would have some of my top choices would have been to go to the Bahamas, South Padre Island, and Miami Beach. All of these places are either located in the United States or very near the United States.

The Bahamas are located off the coast of Florida and have many resorts for anyone to choose from. With it's white-washed shores, scuba diving, excursions, and luxurious accommodations. Even though there are extravagant resorts there are plenty of things to do off the resort. People can go to offshore reefs and wildlife preserves. Shoppers can go to the marketplace for a great deal. Some of the outer islands allow people to enjoy simpler life and drop off the grid. These are just some of things you can do in the Bahamas.
South Padre Island is an island off of Texas, the southern-most tip of Texas. With a wide amount of hotels, sparkling waters, and white-washed beaches. The warm temperature all year lures in tourists of all ages to stay in the warm weather. Some past times for the tourists are kiteboarding, deep sea fishing, and dolphin excursions. This seaside paradise is just the perfect place for people to sneak away to for a weekend of relaxation.

Miami beach is one of the party places located in Florida. With a wide mix of culture and tourists Miami is one of the places to be. North Miami beach is where you will find more of the kid friendly beaches with the most affordable restaurants and hotels. Not 10 miles away are the museums and galleries. South Miami beach is one of the places where people can go to party. This place has high end shops with expensive clothing and energetic night clubs. This place is for the college partier that has a big wallet and wants to have fun.

These are just the places that I would like to go to for my Spring Break. Tell me where your dream vacation spot would be and what you would do.

How to Get Away from the Snow

Record setting winters are just what people don't want, but I know the best places to see the sun and green ground. Some places that have been highly rated for their gorgeous sun year round are Costa Rica, Kauai, and Puerto Rico. These paradises are all located around the equator for sunny days and warm temperatures.

Costa Rica is located in the strip from North America to South America. It has lush green forests, unspoiled beaches, and abundant wildlife. You can hike on active volcanos for the most adventurous people, or zipline through clouded rainforests. Beachgoers can sprawl on the powdery beaches and enjoy beautiful waters. Nature seekers, Costa Rica is the place for you.

Kauai is one of the islands that forms Hawaii. Some hotels and resorts to have one of the best mid winter vacations. Garden Island Inn, Koloa Landing Poipu Beach, and Villas at Poipu Kai are all island resorts or hotels that would give you great service and tons of fun. You can always stay active there with helicopter tours, Kauai Mountain Tubing Adventure, Wailua Jungle River Kayak Safari, and the Napali Coast Sunset Cruise. There is always something to do to get away from the winter blues.

Puerto Rico is an United States territory. You do need a passport but then it is a free for all. People speak Spanish and English so it is easier for Americans to understand. One thing to do is Bio Bay Night Kayaking, and if you want souvenirs you can pay in American dollar bills. Puerto Rico has 20 foot waves and calm waters for families and surfers. Puerto Rico is the place for families and adventure seekers of all kind.

If you have ever gone to one of these three locations then tell what you enjoyed best and what you would try and do differently!

Where to Find the Snow

One of the best ways to spend vacation break is in the snow or snowboarding. Located in California is Mammoth Mountain off of highway 203. It has one of the best for the whole family to enjoy. With over 150 trails around the resort there is always something to do. With a good variety of terrain there is something for all snowboarders to be able to ride.  It has been rated by the World Snowboard Guide as a 10/10. The score is a 97% for freestyle and 80% for free riding, pistes, and beginners.

Another great place for everyone to enjoy is the Vail Ski Resort in Colorado. It has been rated as a 77% in free riding, 76% in free styling and a 75% in pistes. It has a reputation as one of the most prestigious ski resorts in America. Vail has over 5,000 acres of snowboarding terrain and 3 half pipes and 12 runs. The runs and half pipes and are all open to skiers but is mostly used by snowboarders.

Lastly Mount Bachelor is another great place to snowboard in Oregon. Mount Bachelor is located in the Cascade Mountain Range and has a unique shape to itself from the conical shape of the dormant volcano. The shape gives the snowboarder a 360° view of the mountain and the runs.
If you think you have a better snowboarding resort tell me about it and why it is better.

Watching the Colors Change

Just as the temperature starts to cool and the snow gear starts to come out, one of nature's most beautiful changes happen, the leaves change their color. I love to watch the colors change and some of the best places to see that around the states is the New England region. One of the best ways to do that is by driving.
Foresters, an expert in forestry, have reported that Vermont has started to show all of the colors. In the northern Champlain Valley the trees have been shining their colors for a while and is almost at the peak. More colors are going to continue changing in the Southern Valley as the week goes on.
If you were thinking about driving through the forest north to south then here are some routes to see the reds, yellows, and oranges. Route 242 from Montgomery to Jay, Route 302 through Orange, Groton, and Ryegate, Route 9 from Brattleboro to Bennington, Route 11 through Chester, Andover and Londonderry. Those are just some of the roads that will allow you to see all of the beautiful colors of fall.

Have you ever done a scenic drive through of a forest or just driven to look at the trees?

New Orleans Spooktacular Halloween

If you want to get your spook on then I have the perfect place for you. New Orleans is a spooktacular place to go and a family friendly city for all ages. It has many spooky places that you can visit, but here are some of the best spots to get your scare on.
There are haunted tours of the French Quarter and haunted houses in Uptown and the Garden District. Most haunted houses are advertised in the newspaper put on by churches, organizations, and private individuals. Some parental discretion is advised for some of the houses are too scary for young children. One place that is family friendly is the Audubon Zoo, which has it's annual "Boo at the Zoo" that involves trick or treating, entertainment, food, scary stories, a haunted house, rides, and the opportunity to get close to some of the zoo animals. Another place is the Louisiana Children's Museum and they host Halloween events and activities for younger children.

Voodoo shops are all along the French Quarter which helps enhance the spiritual feel of New Orleans. Some shops only give their service to vampires and sometimes plan special events for Halloween. There is also Voodoo music which is bringing in very popular names like, Florence + The Machine, Girl Talk, Ozzy Osbourne, DeadMau5.

Let me know if you have ever been to New Orleans and what your experience was like I'd love to hear your stories.

I love to travel with my family and going somewhere I have never been before. It excites me when I can get to go to places that I have seen in the movies. Also, to experience the place you have been to is what I think is one of the most important parts about traveling. The other important part about traveling is making memories, because there is always that lasting memory of some vacation that will never go away.
I am hoping to cover excessive planning vacations, road trips, spontaneous trips, and long term vacations. I think that these vacations are the broadest types of vacations there are. People should definitely read this blog because if anyone is thinking of a road trip, flying somewhere or taking a two week vacation, they will definitely be able to get ideas from me.
